The Home Approach to Hemorrhoids External Treatment

Hemorrhoids External Treatment – The Home Approach
Trying to heal hemorrhoids is a difficult thing if surgery will not be done. Hemorrhoids external treatment can be of great help in alleviating the hemorrhoid’s signs and symptoms. Home treatment should usually start by having a good healthy bowel movement that would inhibit the hemorrhoids from getting worse, and a good toilet habit to somehow relieve or minimize its signs and symptoms.

To avoid hemorrhoids from getting worse, one should blot the anus gently with baby wipes or a moistened tissue paper after having bowel movements. Rinsing off with water is also another way, but remember to pat the anal area completely dry with an absorbent cotton towel or cloth. Using a perfumed soap or dye is prohibited because they may further irritate the hemorrhoids.

Hemorrhoids external treatment is one way of relieving the itchiness and pain the client would usually feel. Applying some nonprescription topical creams or ointments can help resolve the problem of swelling of hemorrhoids. Putting a hot and cold compress alternately is also one of the treatments done at home. Cold compress is usually applied first for ten minutes, then the hot compress for the next ten to twenty minutes.
Hot towels can also be applied several times a day, in which the moist heat from the towels would minimize the pain felt by reducing the swelling. The most famous hemorrhoid external treatment is Sitz bath. This kind of treatment is similar with the previous ones mentioned in which warmth is used to heal hemorrhoids. The patient is submerged in warm water up to the umbilical level.

Tubs may be used for this treatment but temperature must be carefully watched to prevent burning the skin. Sitz bath is best used at least fifteen minutes after bowel movement.

There are indeed a lot of ways on how hemorrhoids can be treated externally.  Putting aside the treatments mentioned above, it is also best if comfort measures are being done by the patient. A day rest for patients is also needed in order for the hemorrhoids to be relieved from pressure. Sleeping on stomach with a pillow under the hips will remove anal pressure, which helps decrease swelling of the hemorrhoids.
Also, avoid lifting heavy objects and sitting on a pillow during long hours. Moisture build up will further irritate hemorrhoids, thus, using cotton underwear and loose clothing is recommended to allow movement and reduce pressure on the anal area.

Home remedies are way much cheaper compared with all the treatments available. The success of it will depend on how the patient responds to proper measures. However, despite the variety of hemorrhoids external treatments, seeking advice from a health care professional is always necessary. Even if you think surgery has to be done, still, doctors know what better procedure is best for one’s recovery.
